Foo Kwee Horng (also known as Art Foo) began painting full-time in 2010 after more than 15 years of experience as an art instructor. His transition into full-time artistic practice was shaped by a deep commitment to education, community engagement, and the belief that art should extend beyond aesthetics to create positive social impact.
Alongside his studio practice, Foo continues to contribute actively to arts education in Singapore. He teaches part-time to teachers and students in mainstream schools and serves as an external supervisor for art teachers at the National Institute of Education (Singapore). He is also an education facilitator at the National Gallery Singapore, where he supports learning programmes that connect audiences with art through dialogue and hands-on engagement.
Beyond Singapore, Foo regularly volunteers with Colours of Cambodia in Siem Reap, contributing to arts-based initiatives that support underserved communities through creative education. Prior to his career in art and teaching, Foo was formally trained as a social worker—a background that continues to inform his artistic philosophy.
This foundation has shaped his conviction that art should not only be visually compelling but also empathetic, purposeful, and capable of doing good. Through his practice, Foo Kwee Horng continues to bridge art, education, and social responsibility.
