Biography

Dyn (b. 1977) lives and works in Singapore. His artistic practice explores themes of time, displacement, and memory, focusing on the emotional resonance embedded within everyday, often inanimate objects. Through his paintings, Dyn invites viewers to form personal and emotional connections with the spaces and places depicted, evoking a sense of nostalgia and quiet reflection.

Central to Dyn’s work is an interest in how familiar objects act as vessels of memory, allowing individuals to reconnect with fragments of their personal and cultural histories. By drawing attention to these subtle markers of lived experience, his paintings highlight the importance of memory in shaping identity and preserving collective heritage. His works often function as contemplative spaces, prompting viewers to reflect on the passage of time and the layers of meaning accumulated within ordinary environments.

Dyn trained as a fine artist, obtaining a Diploma from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, a Bachelor’s Degree from RMIT University, and a Master’s Degree from The Open University. His artistic development has been supported by several awards and scholarships, including the National Arts Council Arts Bursary (2002), the Winston Oh Travel Scholarship (2002 and 2004), and the Della Butcher Award (2003).

Dyn has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions in Singapore and across the region.
