Biography

Chen Chong’en Born 1976, Singapore.
Studied at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore).
His major artistic models ranges from japanese textiles and design aesthetics, to Dutch still life masters and the florals of French painter Henri Fantin-Latour, the 19th Century Russian Realists, Sorolla, Velazquez, Caravaggio and John Singer Sargent
Currently engaged at Enabling village, Bukit Merah for coaching art with their students.
Chen’s forte in still life painting is evident in the artwork itself. Artists usually have absolute control over the subject matter in a still life painting. This usually reflects the artist’s persistence to details and finer things in life. Chen’s still life artworks are such tribute to such intricacy. Chen’s artistic foundation is firmly grounded as he had received training in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and a specialisation in Western oil painting. His works have been recognised and awarded the first prize for Representation Category at the 22nd UOB Painting of the Year in 2003. Before that, Chen’s work received Highly Commended Painting award at the 21st UOB Painting of the Year in 2002. He also received Della Butcher Merit Award in 2000.
